Our Mission and Values

Mission Statement

The United Way of Chittenden County Mission:
Build a stronger Chittenden County by mobilizing our community to improve people’s lives.

Values

We value:

  • A Caring Community – not a location, but a connection that recognizes the interdependence of all people.
  • The Human Care Network- services that help a person move toward his or her potential by providing support or removing barriers.
  • Respect for Diversity – each person’s worth and differences make our community stronger through life experiences, skill or resources.
  • Engagement of Stakeholders – everyone who shares a common interest in developing a stronger community
  • Accountability – the community’s right to expect that our work will be effective, responsible, equitable, transparent, efficient, and ethical.
  • Innovation – fostering a learning environment where information becomes a catalyst for change.
  • Leadership – the central force in achieving the well-being of the entire community.

United Way of Chittenden County Diversity Statement

United Way of Chittenden County values the diversity of our stakeholders because we believe that:

  • diversity adds to organizational excellence when we tap the skills, talents and resources of people of different backgrounds;
  • diversity of voices and perspectives improves our responsiveness and ability to understand community needs, strengths and resources;
  • diversity makes us better stewards of donor dollars when we reach out to all people; and
  • diversity within a community system of care ensures that all people receive the essential human care services needed.

United Way of Chittenden County defines diversity to include all human characteristics that make us unique as individuals. It includes everyone and excludes no one. Race, gender, geographic origin, culture, lifestyle, age, disability, sexual orientation, economic status, marital status, and religion are just some of the characteristics that define us as people.
