WHY GIVE TO UNITED WAY OF CHITTENDEN COUNTY?

It's A Community Investment

United Way advances the common good by creating opportunities for a better life for all.

Our focus is on education, income and health, the building blocks of a better quality of life.

  • Education: helping children, youth and young adults achieve their potential

  • Income: meeting basic needs and promoting financial stability

  • Health: improving people’s health and well-being

We recruit people and organizations who bring the passion, expertise and resources needed to get things done.  We invite you to be part of the change.  You can give, you can advocate and you can volunteer.   That’s what it means to LIVE UNITED.

Effective Giving

  • We support a high performing network of over 60 programs at 30 local Member Agencies -- as well as several innovative strategic initiatives -- with the proceeds of our Community Campaign (see Investment Sheet), all with a five-year average combined administrative and fundraising cost of 15.9% (well below the state nonprofit average).
  • Our Volunteer Center mobilized and coordinated almost 5,000 volunteers last year. Those volunteers provided 142,000 hours of donated time and talent to nearly 290 local nonprofits  for a value of $2.64 million (if the work had been compensated at the state average hourly wage).
  • Our Vermont 2-1-1 resource and referral service provided a single point of live telephone contact to connect nearly 48,000 callers last year to the appropriate community service via trained resource and referral specialists. Vermont 2-1-1 also played a critical role in the disaster response this Spring and Summer.
